San Lorenzo Church was the parish of the Medici, the place where all the members of the family were buried.

The architect Filippo Brunelleschi transformed the church into an elegant family temple, decorated by Donatello and Andrea del Verrocchio.

In the 16th century, Michelangelo built the New Sacristy, with the fascinating tombs of Giuliano, Duke of Nemours and Lorenzo, Duke of Urbino, together with the Laurentian Library, which houses the collection of manuscripts of Lorenzo the Magnificient, one of the richiest collections in the world. In the 17th century the Princes’ Chapel, covered with marble and semi-precious stones, became the burial place of the Grand-Dukes of Tuscany.
After the tour you can experience the flavors and the colors of the Mercato Centrale, the Central Market, where fresh products are displayed in beautiful stands: wines, extravirgin olive oil, pecorino cheese, salami…all the best of Tuscany.

The tour includes: San Lorenzo church, Laurentian Library and Medici Chapels (entrance fees not included, closed on Monday). Conservative attire is recommended when visiting the churches. The tour can be customized according to your wishes
