The church of Santi Quattro Incoronati is dedicated to four christian martyrs (their names remain unknown), who according to tradition refused to build a pagan statue. It is the sole remaining medieval "fortress-church".
We will also admire the XIth century cloister. Walking up Via di San Giovanni in Laterano, that led pilgrims to the church, we will arrive at the basilica of St. John Lateran, the cathedral church of Rome. Here we will see the Lateran Baptistery, built in the Vth century, the Holy Steps, brought to Rome from Jerusalem by Saint Helena, its beautiful medieval mosaics and Borromini's lower naves. Not far from St. John we will then visit the basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, built on the ruins of Constantine's mother St. Helena's residence where we will admire a beautiful fresco painted by Melozzo da Forlì and a Chapel containing many relics, including fragments of the True Cross. The visit include : the basilica of Santi Quattro Incoronati and the St. Silvester Chapel (Constantine's Conversion), the basilica of St. John Lateran (Lateran Baptistery, Holy Steps) and the basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme.
