The Doria Pamphilj family owes its fame to the election of Pope Innocent X, who, thanks to his sister-in-law Olimpia Maidalchini's wealth, enjoyed a brilliant ecclesiastical career, becoming Pope in 1644
It was a grat scandal at the time, the couple had to escape and only returned some years later to live in the villa that houses the collection today. The Doria Pamphili Gallery is maintained as it was in the past: paintings, furniture, statues, tapestries. Upon walking into its first room you will immediately notice the great luxury of this mansion. We will start our visit in the Poussin Room, then we will see the Velvets Room and the Ballroom, arriving at the Picture Gallery, where the walls are covered with dozens of paintings by important artists: Annibale Carracci, many by Jacopo Bassano and also Jan Brueghel The Elder, Claude Lorraine and Velazquez. In the final rooms are works by artists such as Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael, Van Dyck, Tintoretto and Rubens. The visit include : Doria Pamphilj Gallery. Every day except Thursdays. We provide both individual and group visits. Entrance to the Gallery 8,00 euro per person. Other itineraries related to painting galleries: Email romeguiderome@libero.it Tél 0039/3386981235 |
