The Velabrum (area between the Tiber and the Capitol hill) used to be a swamp, and it is the place where according to legend the wolf found the twins Romulus and Remus.

In time, because of its vicinity to ancient Rome's ports on the Tiber, the Velabrum became a residential area, of which there are still remains such as the Temple of Portunus and the Temple of Hercules Victor.

This visit is dedicated to discovering the origins of Rome, in the places where the legend of Romulus and Remus took place. It will start at the Capitol hill, we will see the Theater of Marcellus, from the period of the emperor Augustus and the Temple of Apollo. We will also visit the church of San Nicola in Carcere (St. Nicholas in prison) among the ruins of the Forum Holitorium, the medieval church of San Giorgio al Velabro, the Arch of Janus and the Arcus Argentariorum (latin for "arch of the money-changers", in Italian Arco degli Argentari). We will admire the Temple of Portunus and the Temple of Hercules, built in the place where according to legend the god fought the giant Cacus, the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin (where we will see the famous Bocca della Verità) and end at Circus Maximus under the imperial at the foot of the imperial buildings, close to the Baths of Caracalla.
