Pisa is an ancient Maritime Republic whose coasts are washed by the Mediterranean Sea. One of the main Italian rivers, the Arno, flows through its centre lapping the riverside. The Cathedral square is the maximum expression of the greatness reached by the city during the Middle Ages. Here stands, close to other imposing monuments, the worldwide famous Leaning Tower The tour includes an introduction to all the monuments of the Cathedral Square and the visit of the interior of the most relevant ones: the XI c. Cathedral, masterpiece of the Pisan Romanesque style, houses a beautiful pulpit carved by Giovanni Pisano, paintings by Andrea del Sarto, Domenico Beccafumi and Passignano, a XIII c. mosaic partly made by Cimabue (Giotto’s master), an amazing example of a coffered and gilded ceiling and the best-known Galilei’s pendulum; the very imposing circular Baptistry, where the pulpit carved by Nicola Pisano is housed, is also famous for its acoustics of which a demostration is given every 30 minutes; Entrance fees (not included).
