Guided tours of Pisa : National Museum of San Matteo

One of the most important collections of Medieval painting from the XIIth to the XVth c. is housed in San Matteo National Museum: paintings by Giunta Pisano, Simone Martini, Masaccio, Ghirlandaio, Beato Angelico can be here admired together with a unique exhibition of Medieval crosses painted on wood. It also contains Medieval wood and marble sculptures and several ceramic bowls, mostly Islamic, and originally used as decoration for the Pisan churches. The places that once housed these treasures can still be visited with a pleasant stroll through the city centre: Piazza Garibaldi, the church of San Michele in Borgo, the Dominican church of Santa Caterina, the small church of Santa Maria della Spina. Duration of visit: to be arranged with the tourist guide. National Museum of San Matteo: €4.00 per person (for citizens of the European Community, under 18 y.o and over 65 y.o. free, the identity card is to be produced. Admission charges (to be paid by the customer) Visit possible every days exept on Mondays and Sunday afternoons. Chiesa della Spina: €1.50
