Strolling through the historic centre of Pisa is the best way to get a deeper knowledge of this ancient city. Walking along its narrow streets and through its many squares, several hidden treasures are revealed to the visitor. This itinerary starts from the Cathedral Square and proceedes along Via Santa Maria to the Church of San Sisto, the Square of the Knights of Saint Stephen, the Scuola Normale Superiore (a highly prestigious University founded by Napoleon Bonaparte), Piazza Carrara and the Royal Palace. Noble palaces, Medieval churches and towerhouses on the Lungarni (riverside roads) stand as a testimony of the Pisan glorious past. After a short stop at the ancient seat of the University, the itinerary goes on through the medieval district and the antique fish and vegetables market, Borgo Stretto with Vincenzo Galilei’s house (Galilei’s father), Via Santa Apollonia, the ruins of Roman Baths and back to the Cathedral Square. Duration of the guided tour: to be arranged with the tourist guide Entrance fees not included
